Frequently asked questions
First, you need to identify what motivates your travel. Is it a specific location, the desire to see new places, the opportunity for higher pay, or enjoying nicer weather? Knowing your travel goals will help you find a job that matches your preferences.
Once you know where you want to go, you’ll need to obtain a nursing license for the state where you plan to work. If you live in a compact state, you can get a compact state license, which allows you to travel to all participating states. Please visit our compact state guide for more details.

Pay can vary based on a number of factors, including the assignment, specialty, state, and facility. When searching for a job, keep in mind that while pay differs, the cost of living in the area is equally important. Some assignments may pay more but come with a higher cost of living, while others might pay less but have lower living expenses. Access to public transportation and state income tax can also make a difference. For instance, pay in Texas may be lower than in Massachusetts, but the cost of living is generally less, and Texas has no state income tax.
Take a look at our 2025 guide to allied health specialties that are in high demand.
While individual assignments may have unique requirements, there are several criteria every travel nurse must meet to work with White Glove:
– A minimum of one year of nursing experience in your specialty, ideally within a hospital environment.
– An active nursing license in the state where you will be working — our team is available to assist you with the application process in any state and can often help expedite it.
– Preferred certifications from the American Heart Association, such as ACLS and BLS (requirements may differ by specialty).
– Willingness to commit to a full-time travel assignment, which entails working at least 36 hours per week.
