6 Tips for Travel Nurses

Travel nursing is an exciting experience for nurses, especially for first-time travelers! Congratulations for coming this far! Our recruiters at White Glove Placement, Inc. love working with our travel nurses because we love to place our nurses with nursing jobs that help them to expand their career and reach their goals. If you are a travel nurse, utilize our tips to help get you through your travel nursing experience with White Glove!

Planning is Key!

Before you set forth on your travel nursing journey, make sure your nursing license, health information, and immunization records are up to date. (Have no fear, our trusty recruiters will be here to make sure you have all your documents ready!) Be sure to ask your recruiters all your questions, such as confirming pay rates, how long your travel assignment will be, and what benefits you will be offered.

Don’t be afraid to travel!

Remember to take a deep breath and don’t be afraid to take a risk! This is your chance to show the world what you are made of so don’t be afraid to travel far from home. Be flexible and open to various travel nursing opportunities to help get your foot in the door. Your first assignment will always seem scary at first but have faith in your nursing skills and trust that you can get through any obstacles that are thrown at you.

Do your research!

When you get your  travel assignment, make sure you research the location you are traveling to. Ask your recruiters about housing accommodations and familiarize with the area of where your assignment is and how you can commute to work. Make sure to research about the climate of where you are traveling to, so you can pack smart and avoid bringing your whole closet with you! In addition, get familiar with where the nearest grocery is, hot spots to check out on your days off, and places you should avoid.

Make your home arrangements before leaving!

Since most travel assignments are temporary decide what you will be doing about your home before you leave. Will you have someone look after your place while you are gone? Will you forward your mail? Do you need to cancel your cable and Wi-Fi services? While there are a lot of things to think about before you start your travel nurse assignments, make sure you make all your arrangements at home before leaving so that you can be a little more at ease while you are away.

Make Connections!

The travel nursing network has a great community of nurses who travel across the world. Get to know your coworkers and other travel nurses to learn about their experiences and to help guide you through your journey. Make sure to also stay connected with your recruiter, because they are on your side and here to help you succeed through your travel nursing career.

Have Fun and Good Luck!

Make the most of your travel nursing assignment by enjoying your temporary home and the people around you. Let your experiences help shape you and excite you for your next travel assignment. Remember your recruiters are there for you every step of the way and you can reach out to them when you’re ready to explore new nursing opportunities!

Back-to-School Safety Tips During the COVID-19 Pandemic

How to Keep Kids Safe Back to School

The new school year is here and although it may look a little differently, we can all take steps as a community to help protect our children and those around us. At White Glove, we have 1:1 School Nurse positions throughout the New York and New Jersey areas available so you can be rest assured your child is still given the care he/she deserves to have while in school. As a parent here are some ways you can protect your children and your homes as they go back to school.

Ask Questions

Do not be afraid to address your safety concerns with your children’s school. Ask them what steps they have taken and how the school will support and implement these changes to help protect your children. Ask them how you can help support the school safety effort and be mindful of regulations you and your children should be aware of such as new drop off procedures or guidelines for mask wearing in the classrooms.

Talk to your Children

Make sure to always address your children’s concerns by talking to them about their fears and teach them how to protect themselves when interacting with other students. Remind them that you are there for them and that their teachers, aides, and nurses are also there for them. Make sure that they are aware of all the safety guidelines they should follow.

Reinforce COVID-19 Safety Precautions

Remind your children to follow the COVID-19 Safety Precautions below when they go back to school:

  • Social Distancing – Make sure your child reduces contact between other people and limit the amount of people they are interacting with. Remind them the importance of keeping their distance from other students and to avoid sharing food, drinks, or supplies with their friends.
  • Wear a Mask! – Remind your child the importance of keeping their masks on and how to properly put on and take off their masks, which includes washing their hands and avoiding touching their masks and face.
  • Handwashing – Aside from reminding them not to touch, their eyes, nose or mouth also remind them importance of washing their hands thoroughly with soap and water. If soap and water is not available, make sure to always pack a hand sanitizer with them to have handy.

Take Care of your Homes

As important as it is to follow the COVID-19 Safety Precautions when you are outside, you should also remember to practice good hygiene at home. This includes making sure your child remembers to wash their hands when they return home and to change out of their clothes and clean up when they come home from school. Always remember to disinfect objects and surfaces that are commonly touched like doorknobs, faucets, light switches, etc. Get into the habit of also disinfecting your child’s belongings when they get home from school.

Keep Your Kids Home When Sick

Make sure to always have a working thermometer and over the counter cold medicine handy at home. If your child is not feeling well, make sure you do not send your child to school. Monitor all symptoms and know when to contact your family doctor. Also make sure to schedule your children’s annual check ups to make sure they are staying healthy and up to date on all their vaccinations.

Best of luck this school year!

We hope that your children have a successful return to school this year. If you are a nurse interested in our 1:1 Student Care School nurse positions, contact our recruiters today and we can help you find a case closest to home! We hope you all stay safe and well.

7 Ways to Help You Cope with Stress as a Caregiver

7 Ways to Help You Cope with Stress as a Nurse

Our Caregivers have remained vigilant and strong throughout all the hardships they have had to face. We are so proud of our nurses and all the other healthcare workers for all they have done for our community. We know their job is no easy task, so we have compiled some tips to help our nurses cope through the stress at work.

Remember to Breath

Did you know that breathing can release endorphins that help you feel calmer? When the going gets tough, always remember to breathe. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose and out through your mouth from the abdomen.

Get Organized

Get yourself together by staying organized. Plan a morning routine for yourself (or afternoon if you work night shifts). Schedule your workdays by setting up your alarm early enough to get everything you need to get done to avoid rushing out the door like a mess.

Get Some Exercise

Sometimes all you need to help relieve some of that work tension is a good workout. Whether it be a strenuous kickbox session to let out some steam, a jog or walk around the block, or even some yoga for some deep meditation. Whatever outlet you choose to use, let that be your escape from the built-up stress you’ve obtained.

Talk it Out

Sometimes all you need to help relieve work stress is venting to your best friends. So, make sure to stay in touch with your friends and talk it out. What else are friends for?

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Who else gets hangry after missing a meal or two? Maintaining a healthy diet regularly can help boost your stamina and your patience levels. Always remember to stay hydrated and try to schedule breaks to eat even if it is just a snack.

Get your sleep!

As hard as it is, it is important for you to try and get a good sleep schedule in to help avoid your body feeling so tired and drained. Try avoiding being on your phone before bedtime and instead create a more calming sleeping routine like including some meditation time right before bed.

Stay Positive!

Reduce stress by reducing the negativity that may follow you at work. Instead of focusing on the bad, try and focus on the good. Remember that you are a lot stronger than you think you are and you are always capable of greatness.

You Got This!

The next time work stresses you out, follow these tips to help get you back on track. We are thankful for all our White Glove Placement nurses for all they do, and we are always rooting for you to succeed. So, remember to breathe, get organized, stay healthy, talk it out, get some sleep, and stay positive. You got this!

Summer Safety Tips

The warmer weather is upon us and as the sun graces us with its presence let us remember to practice these Summer Safety Tips to help you stay healthy and cool all summer long.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key during the summer, especially if you will be spending more time outdoors. The standard suggestion is to aim to drink 6-8 cups of water a day. Make sure to always carry a bottle of water with you just in case you start to feel parched.hydrate summer tips

Limit Exposure

Although the sun can be very inviting, when it comes to increased temperatures such as heat waves, it is wiser to keep your outdoor activities shorter. Avoid chances of heat exhaustion by limiting how much time you are spending outside.

Apply Sunscreen

Make sure to always carry sunscreen with you and apply before heading out. This way you can protect your skin from the UV rays and avoid sunburn. If you are traveling by car, consider always having a bottle handy when traveling.

Dress Appropriately

When possible, try wearing loose, light colored clothing to avoid the sticky feeling that comes with the summer heat. Try avoiding wearing dark colors as those colors tend to absorb the heat. You can even consider topping off your outfit with a lightweight, broadbrimmed hat to keep your head protected from the heat as well. Get stylish and show your eyes some love by wearing sunglasses to protect them from those UV rays as well! These simple changes to your wardrobe can help you stay cool and avoid sunburn.

Be Mindful of Heat Strokes

When the thermostat rises, it’s natural to feel flushed and perhaps even suffer fatigue, headache, and nausea, but these could also be signs of heat stroke, especially when paired with symptoms like dizziness, confusion, high body temperature, and a surprising lack of sweat. It is important to recognize the signs of heat stroke and call for help immediately if you suspect this dangerous condition.
