Healthy Eating Tips for Travel Nurses

Take Care of Your Heart Health

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and is responsible for one in four deaths each year. In honor of Heart Month, we can all do our part in taking charge of our heart health and those around us by working together to live a healthier lifestyle especially as travel nurses. Read on for our healthy eating tips for travel nurses.

1. Stick to a Routine!

When starting a new travel nursing assignment, consider setting up a routine for yourself as quickly as possible. This will allow you to stay ahead of yourself and help you eat healthier. Get to know where your nearest groceries are so you know where to go stock up on fruits and vegetables. Make a list of all the things you need prior to shopping to avoid buying with your eyes. Also browse through local restaurants that have healthier options for the days you need a break from cooking.

2. Make Meal Prepping Your Best Friend

Meal prepping is a great way to help you save time, money, and those unwanted calories. The internet is your treasure map to all different types of recipes that are easy to make and great for nurses on the go. Switch up your protein options to help add variety in your meals and discover various salad recipes to help make eating your veggies less boring. Use individual sized containers to help save space in your fridge and make it easier for grab and go in the morning or night (depending on your shift).

3. Choose Healthier Snacks!

As easy as it is to run to the vending machine to grab a bag of chips or candy bar, consider adding healthier snacks to your grocery list. Grab nuts and dried fruit options or individually packed trail mix, granola bars, or low sodium crackers. You can even prepare celery sticks or carrot sticks for an even healthier snack option.

Furthering Your Nursing Education Online

You can reach your goals!

With nursing in high demand, our nurses have been stepping up to the challenge to float and work where they are needed. This is where gaining further education helps you to advance in your nursing career so you can continue to excel.

If furthering your nursing education has been on your list of New Year’s resolutions, many schools have made it easier for you to work and get an education online on your own time. The question is, how are you looking to further your nursing career goals?

LPN-to-BSN Programs

LPNs looking to further their education to become a BSN requires applying to both a university and a school of nursing. LPNs should complete a general education core of English, history, and math classes. Most programs require one year work experience and a valid nursing license to be considered. Getting recommendations from your supervisors, nurse mentors, or colleagues can help enhance your application.

Some of the best online LPN to BSN programs you can find are:

  • Indiana State University
  • North Dakota State University
  • University of Oklahoma
  • Presentation College

BSN-to-MSN Programs

If you’re a nurse looking to take on leadership roles, getting your MSN may help increase your chances in landing that job. It also helps to gain more education to help advance your knowledge in the fields you are looking to become more specialized in. You can even apply for 1-year MSN programs online! Some of the requirements needed for admission are possessing a AND or BSN in nursing, letters of recommendations, GRE scores, and a current resume.

Some online 1-Year MSN Programs to consider are:

  • University of Alabama in Huntsville
  • University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
  • University of Arizona College of Nursing
  • Southwestern Oklahoma State University

Good Luck!

However way you decide to further your nursing education, we know you can do it. At White Glove Placement, we offer flexible scheduling options for nurses looking to work and go to school at the same time. Ask our recruiters about our great opportunities for nurses, because at White Glove we care about your future and we are always rooting for you! ????

Life as a Nurse During a Pandemic

The last few months have shown us how important our healthcare workers are. In a time where we were faced with uncertainty, our healthcare workers have stepped up to the plate by providing the best quality care for those who have been affected by this pandemic. Through it all, they have shown us resilience while putting their own lives at risks including their families. So, what can nurses expect and how can they learn from this experience?

Infection Prevention & PPE

Personal protective equipment continues to be the key component in protecting our healthcare workers. Our hospitals have learned the importance of having adequate supplies and resources for their staff. They have come together by following the rules and regulations as advised by health officials and the CDC to make sure their facilities are being cleaned regularly to effectively prevent the spread of the virus.

Nurse Burnout & Compassion Fatigue

This pandemic has certainly pushed our healthcare workers with a heavy workload and our nurses especially have been working double time to provide care for the people in our communities. They have had to deal with the hardships of seeing death daily and even seeing their own coworkers and/or themselves falling victim to the virus.

At the end of the day our nurses are exhausted, so it is important for them to realize when nurse burnout and compassion fatigue are present. Our nurses need to realize when they must step back to take care of themselves for them to be healthy enough to care for others. Read our blog on ways our nurses can help cope with the stress of nursing.

Empathy & Patience

With new regulations placed in hospitals to help prevent the spread of the virus, it is important for our nurses to show empathy and patience. As hard as it is for our healthcare workers it is just as hard on the patients to be laying there without their loved ones by their side.

Chances are our patients are feeling scared and alone not knowing if they will ever get to see their loved ones again. Our nurses need to showcase their strength by showing compassion and finding a way to be there for their patients the best way they can, while still protecting themselves.

Nurses are Amazing!

It is important for our community to fight through this pandemic together by continuing to practice social distancing and wearing a mask so our healthcare workers can continue to do their jobs. We are forever thankful for our nurses, especially our White Glove nurses for all they are doing to help care for our community.

We encourage new nurses to apply and join our exceptional team because our nurses are amazing, and our recruiters are here to guide our nurses in helping the best positions that will continue to strengthen their skills. If you have any questions, you can always contact us, and our recruiters will do their best to assist you in any way they can.

Thank you Nurses
